I think we had a good event that night, the 22nd of November 2013, I certainly enjoyed it. It was a good site and the sky was kind too, but it was cold. I was a bit surprised at the numbers, more than I expected, no detractors, no yobs, just good honest folk with an interest in our subject.
The clear sky allowed us to see several Open Clusters, of particular interest were M37 and NGC884 (couldn't get both that and NGC869 in the eyepiece), M45, in the big bins, Albireo proved a favourite, M31 was seen, M81 too. The moon was gibbous and commanded the scene when it got up well, to the almost exclusion of most other objects, but it impressed most of the visitors who kept asking for it in all the telescopes. M42 was seen later in the night, and other individual stars, Betelgeuse, Castor, Sirius.
Thanks to all for the effort put in, by those who brought and operated telescopes and laser pointers and just talked to the visitors, a most important part of the occasion, there were lots of questions, and lots of talk. Mark and his Celestron, Vic and his, Dave and Lesley and her tongue, Elaine and Sandra with their tongues and laser pointers. Peter running the big bins and Paul and I keeping out of the way.

I hope the council people there, Matthew Guest and Catherine Khamis enjoyed it too and consider it worth doing again in other villages. They organised it and did the advertising, not sure how, but took bookings for the occasion, which is perhaps why all the visitors were interested in astronomy.

It lasted from 8:30pm to near 11pm, when we had to tell those still there that it was time to go home or they might have stayed with us all night.
